The land of the smiling people

Cambodians smile. So did (and still do) we. Trip to Siem Reap! Early in the morning, in the tuktuk to the boat. Brightly reflected sunrise above the mighty Mekong. Soon to be found on deck.

       waving to fishing fishers
       observing floating villages
       gazing at all those shades of green 
       looking at wet water buffaloes      
       stuck!? Take a bamboo stick     
       there’s no line at the horizon    
       oops, bit burned

All those impressive impressions along the Tonlé Sap! But the main goal of our visit is yet to come. Guess what? Well off course! The temples of Angkor. Featuring Angkor Wat. Loads of photo’s and reports of this world wonder circle around all over the world. Now we fully understand why. It is amazing! But it’s difficult to capture the scenery on a photograph. Even postcards and guidebooks don’t give the full picture. That’s how it goes with the most beautiful things in life, the only way to capture them is by capturing them in your heart. So if you ever have the chance, do certainly not hesitate.

Het had iets weg van ‘Jungle Book’ en van het Jommekesalbum ‘De schat Angkor Wat’. Maar dat was toch nog net niet dat!

Van de vele tempels die we bezochten: Angkor Wat, Banteay Srey, Kbal Spean, Ta Prohm, Preah Khan… is er eentje onze gezamenlijke favoriet. De Bayon. Van veraf lijkt het een zootje ongeregeld, maar eens je je ogen van wat dichterbij de volle kost kan geven, verschijnt er een gelukzalige glimlach op je gelaat…
